In light of on-going campus and global tension, Faculty Council passed a motion in January that asked itself to craft a values statement that reflected its commitment to basic human decency. The statement went through many iterations; during the process, Council solicited the input and support of the Student and Staff Councils. What you read, therefore, represents the collaborative efforts of Ithaca College’s governing bodies. Although it may not speak perfectly to anyone, we hope it speaks something to everyone.
Respectively,

Faculty, Staff, and Student Councils’ Value Statement
In response to campus, national, and world events, we affirm that Ithaca College welcomes faculty, staff, and students from around the globe. As a learning community, we are inextricably bound to the world and recognize that international visitors enrich our campus, which is further enhanced when our own students and faculty study abroad.
We endorse scientific and critical inquiry as a foundational element in how we analyze, understand, and solve the difficult challenges confronting us. We believe scholars must be free to follow their inquiries wherever they may lead, and to express their ideas in an environment of open and respectful dialog.
We passionately commit to nurturing a diverse and inclusive community, appreciating that diversity takes many forms, including: race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, class, and ability. We embrace and learn from these differences, as they strengthen our local connections and facilitate our ability to share in the responsibilities of global citizenship.
