Each semester the Department of Communication Studies holds the Perialas Oratory Competition. This spring nine semifinalists were evaluated by faculty members and four finalists then performed speeches on April 27. First year Business Administration student Emma Jones won the contest with a speech on requiring Ithaca College students to be proficient in a language other than English. The Perialas Prize for Oratory was established in 1999 to honor Constantine (Gus) Perialas, a former member of the Communication Studies Department.
The other finalists were Harrison Malkin and Joseph Oster, both first year Integrated Marketing students, and first year Exploratory student Nathaniel Bartolo.
