"Fostering Inclusive Conversation Across Societal Divides: Reflections from and with IC’s 2017 Honorary Degree Recipients”

05/15/17

Contributed by Minnie Lauzon

This informal conversation is a chance to get to know the two honorary degree recipients who will be part of the Sunday Commencement program.

Ann Thompson Cook has provided visionary leadership in movements promoting social justice for nearly 50 years including co-founding Many Voices: A Black Church Movement for Gay and Transgender Justice. La June Montgomery Tabron is president and CEO of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which is leading a Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) enterprise to help communities embrace racial healing.  In different spheres, both have worked for many years to bring people together to affirm our collective humanity and heal the divides in our country.

Ms. Cook and Ms. Tabron will speak briefly of their experiences and insights from organizing dialogs that bridge differences, especially in these polarized times. We will spend most of our time together in discussion with those present.

Date: Saturday, May 20, 2017
Location: Clark Lounge
Time: 3:00 - 3:45pm

Refreshments will be served. Please join the conversation and help us in welcoming our honorary degree recipients to IC!
