It is with great mixed emotions that we announce that Harriet Marisa, Associate Director for Systems & Applications Administration in DIIS will be retiring at the end of this month. After just over 23 years at Ithaca College, her last day will be Friday, June 30th.
As a student at the University of Rochester, Harriet was hired by the IT department first as a student operator and then as a student consultant. Her first job after college was with the Raytheon Corporation in the Equipment Division migrating circuit board design software from an IBM platform to a CDC platform. Some of it was in COBOL and some control pieces were assembly language. She also had a project with the Missile Systems Division designing a radarscope display. And then she returned to the University of Rochester professional IT staff ultimately ending on the Administrative side of the house.
Harriet started at Ithaca College in March of 1994 as a Programmer/Analyst and moved through the various ladders. She has held several titles including Database Administrator, Manager of Database and Application Administration to her current position as Associate Director for Systems and Applications Administration.
Currently, Harriet provides leadership and oversight for enterprise-wide databases and applications and their associated infrastructures for systems such as Homer, Parnassus, Advance, ECM, and BI. She also oversees the System Administration staff who build the servers and keep the servers running, up-to-date and secure, manage the private and public clouds as well as promoting identity management. The Endpoint Systems and Applications Administration group is responsible for the images (software and applications) that are deployed automatically or manually to the lab and Eclassroom machines plus the assets that go through Tech Renewal around campus. Then there are the miscellaneous things she does like the annual Financial Audit for IT, recovery efforts, process application licenses and renewals, maintain contracts and build budgets.
Harriet loves to travel and visit with her four adult children and four grandchildren whenever possible. She loves to read historical novels, Science Fiction, Thrillers and Romance. She also loves to crochet as well as connect with people!
Harriet will be greatly missed by everyone in DIIS as well as those she connected with within the greater IC Community.
Please join us in wishing her all the best as she embarks on this next chapter. The IC community is invited to Harriet’s reception on Thursday, June 15 in the Klingenstein Lounge from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
