Historian Jonathan Ablard's latest article has been published in The Americas: A Quarterly Review of Latin American History (Cambridge University Press).
Entitled “'The barracks receives spoiled children and returns men’: Debating Military Service, Masculinity and Nation-Building in Argentina, 1901-1930,” this article traces the history of obligatory military service in Argentina and explores how different sectors of society interpreted its political and social meanings. This research was partially supported by a summer grant from the Center for Faculty Excellence.
