The Distinguished Visiting Writers Series, which runs every semester, brings nationally recognized writers to Ithaca College to offer a public reading and to guest-teach the Visiting Writer's Workshop (WRTG 38000), an advanced class that allows IC students the unique opportunity to learn from some of America's foremost writers.

John D’Agata is the author of Halls of Fame, About a Mountain, and The Lifespan of a Fact, as well as the editor of the 3-volume series A New History of the Essay, which includes the anthologies The Next American Essay, The Making of the American Essay, and The Lost Origins of the Essay. His work has been supported by a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Howard Foundation Fellowship, an NEA Literature Fellowship, and a Lannan Foundation Fellowship. He holds a B.A. from Hobart College and two M.F.A.s from the University of Iowa, and recently his essays have appeared in The Believer, Harper's, Gulf Coast, and Conjunctions. John D’Agata lives in Iowa City with a dog named Boeing, and he teaches creative writing at the University of Iowa where he directs the graduate Nonfiction Writing Program.

Born and raised in New Orleans, T. Geronimo Johnson is the bestselling author of Welcome to Braggsville, which was longlisted for the 2015 National Book Award, and Hold It ’Til It Hurts, a finalist for the 2013 PEN/Faulkner Award for fiction. He received his M.F.A. from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and his M.A. in language, literacy, and culture from UC Berkeley. He has taught writing and held fellowships—including a Stegner Fellowship and an Iowa Arts Fellowship—at Arizona State University, Iowa, Berkeley, Western Michigan University, and Stanford. He is the recipient of the Ernest J. Gaines Award and the Simpson Family Literary Prize. He lives in Berkeley, California.

Saeed Jones' debut poetry collection Prelude To Bruise (Coffee House Press) was the winner of the 2015 PEN/Joyce Osterweil Award For Poetry and the 2015 Stonewall Book Award/Barbara Gittings Literature Award, and a finalist for the 2015 National Book Critics Circle Award. The collection was also a finalist for 2015 awards from the Lambda Literary and the Publishing Triangle. Mr. Jones also won a Pushcart Prize for poetry in 2013 and 2016. His poetry and essays have appeared in The New York Times, NPR and Best American Poetry, among others. The Advocate Magazine recently named him as one of the "50 Most Influential LGBT People in Media." His memoir, How We Fight For Our Lives, is forthcoming from Simon & Schuster in 2018.
