From Senior Vice President Nancy Pringle and Provost Linda Petrosino
Ithaca College has reached a settlement agreement with the National Labor Relations Board on an unfair labor practice charge filed by the union representing contingent faculty.
SEIU Local 200United had filed the charge in May, alleging that the college changed the practice of how it included the names of contingent faculty in the fall 2017 course listings without bargaining over the alleged change in practice. The parties were bargaining over the terms of appointments for contingent faculty as part of negotiations on an initial contract when the course listings were posted, and those appointment provisions were not yet clear at the time of the alleged change. The college has agreed to issue the schedule of courses listing all the names of contingent faculty known or expected to teach for the fall 2017 semester.
The college will be sending a notice of the settlement to all members of the bargaining unit as well as posting the notice at locations on campus.
A separate unfair labor practice claim alleging three contingent faculty were terminated from their positions was withdrawn by the union in June, after the NLRB indicated that it would be dismissing the charge due to lack of merit.
