For Contingent Faculty: Informational Session on *NEW* NYS Paid Family Leave Program

Join us for an Info Session THIS FRIDAY:  Paid Family Leave Benefits for Contingent Faculty  Friday, October 6th, 2:00 - 2:50 PM Center for Health Sciences (CHS) 202 

 Dear Contingent Faculty, 

Before you communicate with your Chair/Director about your availability for work in 2018, we want you to be aware of new benefits available to private sector workers in 2018. Starting January 1, 2018, the New York State Paid Family Leave Program (NYPFL) will provide private sector employees working in New York state with job-protected, paid family leave for parents and other caretakers. 

 What does the new law provide?

• Starting January 1, eligible employees will have access to up to 8 weeks of paid family leave at 50% of pay.
• The NYPFL program provides full job protection, meaning that you cannot be fired by your employer for making use of it.  

Who can take these benefits? 

• PFL generally covers private-sector employees who have been with their employer for at least 26 consecutive work weeks (if full-time), or at least 175 days in a consecutive 52-week period (if part-time). 
• Part-time and full-time contingent faculty across the state are expecting to be covered by this new law, which was written with the broadest inclusivity in mind.
