The Department of Writing's Handwerker Reading Series is pleased to present a reading and discussion by two visiting authors and editors: poet Elizabeth A. I. Powell and fiction writer Jensen Beach.
The event takes place TUESDAY, October 10, at 6:00 p.m. in the Handwerker Gallery (Gannett Center). The event is free and open to the public.

Elizabeth A. I. Powell is the author of the poetry collections The Republic of Self (New Issues) and Willy Loman’s Reckless Daughter: Living Truthfully Under Imaginary Circumstances (Anhinga Press). She has received a Pushcart Prize, the New Issues First Book Prize, the Robert Dana Prize in Poetry, and other awards. Her work has appeared in Black Warrior Review, Ecotone, Harvard Review, Hobart, Missouri Review, Ploughshares, and elsewhere. She is Editor of Green Mountains Review, and Associate Professor of Writing and Literature at Johnson State College. She also serves on the faculty of the low-residency MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and the Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Writing and Publishing.
Jensen Beach is the author of two story collections, For Out of the Heart Proceed (Dzanc) and Swallowed by the Cold (Graywolf). He teaches in the BFA program at Johnson State College, where he is the fiction editor at Green Mountains Review. His writing has appeared recently in A Public Space, the Paris Review, and The New Yorker.
