The most recent volume of Engaging Students: Essays in Music Pedagogy, vol. 5 features an article by Crystal Peebles: "Engaging Community in a Twentieth-Century Analysis Class."

This article details the advantages of using meaningful community engagement within the music classroom. It specifically describes a learning experience in "The Analysis of Music since 1900," a required course for most music majors, where students connected the music theory learned in the classroom with the practice of music performance in the community.

Prof. Peebles has also contributed to the first volume of this open-access resource for college-level music educators. Her earlier essay: "Using Audacity to Participate in Active Musical Listening" describes techniques of incorporating technology in the music theory classroom to teach and assess essential music-listening skills.
