The student organization IC Food for Thought raised $226 through raffles and donations for Concern Worldwide, which will aid Ethiopian children who have malnourishment issues.
The contribution will pay for the therapeutic food paste known as Plumpy Nut, which provides concentrated nutritional needs in a way that doesn't require water and can help malnourished children recover in 4-6 weeks.
IC Food for Thought has been an active student organization on campus since 2008, and this is the 11th time the organization has raised funds for the purchase of Plumpy Nut. They also sponsor panels and informational sessions regarding international hunger and sanitation issues. Their next event will be a panel on global sanitation issues to be held on Monday, November 13, at 7:00 pm in the Clark Lounge. The discussion will focus on World Toilet Day, an international event designed to highlight the fact that 4.5 billion people worldwide do not have access to a proper toilet. Panelists will also discuss the current crisis in Puerto Rico regarding sewage, lack of fresh water and other sanitation issues. Faculty are encouraged to bring their classes; the event is free and open to the public.
