Battery Purchases and disposing of used alkaline batteries

In the ongoing effort to continue to generate savings, increase efficiencies and improve environmental efforts, the Procurement Department negotiated with The Grainger Company for contracted pricing on Duracell Procell batteries in all sizes. Available immediately, purchases can be made by accessing the Grainger punch-out catalogue in IC Marketplace. Pricing through Grainger provides IC buyers with a superior product at extremely low prices. Batteries may still be purchased from the warehouse as well where batteries will continue to be inventoried. To access the warehouse form, please use: https://www.ithaca.edu/procurement/warehouse/ and click on "Warehouse Supplies Requisition Form". The savings to the campus community with this sourcing initiative is estimated at $6700 annually. In collaboration with the Campus Bookstore and for Sustainable initiatives, a battery reclamation program is underway. Individuals can bring all used alkaline batteries to the Campus Store and deposit them into a reclamation container that is located at the main entrance. When the container is full, it is sent to a reclamation center, keeping them out of a landfill and preventing them from entering a waste stream.
