Using Cultural Iconography in Screenwriting and Media Production
Instructor: A. Van Jordan, Park School Distinguished Visiting Professor
Dates: Fridays, February 9, 16, 23, and March 2, 2018
Times: 2:00-5:10pm

This course is designed to help independent filmmakers use both cultural and historic iconography in their filmmaking. We will discuss these areas from two approaches: First, the methods of research one might use early in the process of writing the film and, secondly, the craft of applying the research to the film. By the end of the course, you should have an understanding of not only what to include in the script from your research but also of what to discard in the final cut. We will have guest independent filmmakers who will discuss how they approach this artistic problem in their filmmaking.

Don't worry: You won't need prior experience researching cultural or historical material; you only need your curiosity for learning more about its power in film.
