McHale's latest television series, “The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale,” premiered earlier this month on Netflix. A spin on “The Soup,” which McHale hosted for 12 seasons on E!, the show features satirical commentary on the news, pop culture and social media. McHale is perhaps best known for playing hot-shot lawyer-turned community college student Jeff Winger on the hit comedy series “Community,” which aired for five seasons on NBC and one on Yahoo. He also starred on the CBS comedy series “The Great Outdoors,” and appeared on Fox's 2016 revival of “The X-Files.”

McHale recently played his former “Community” co-star Chevy Chase in the Netflix movie “A Futile & Stupid Gesture,” which tells the story of National Lampoon co-founder Doug Kenney. He has also starred in movies such as “Ted,” “Blended” and “The Informant.”

In 2014, McHale hosted the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in Washington, D.C. He also hosted the 2015 ESPYs on ABC.

McHale wrote his first book, “Thanks for the Money: How to Use My Life Story to Become the Best Joel McHale You Can Be,” in 2016. Published by Putnam Penguin, the book is part-memoir, part-self-help guide.

Born in Rome and raised in Seattle, Washington, McHale studied history at the University of Washington. He later received a MFA from the university’s Actor’s Training Program.
