The Annual Conference of the Consortium on the Revolutionary Era was held February 22-24, 2018 and featured a panel entitled “Gendered Politics, Heroic Death, and Public Lives: Transnational Women” with three papers given by IC historians.
On February 24th, Dr. Vivian Bruce Conger (a historian of the United States) presented a paper entitled “Deborah Read Franklin and Sally Franklin Bache: Female Friendship and the Performance of Politics in Revolutionary Philadelphia”; Dr. Jason Freitag (a historian of South Asia and the British Empire) presented a paper entitled “A Heroine, An Empire, A Nation: The Lives of Kṛṣṇa Kumārī”; and Dr. Karin Breuer (a historian of Modern Europe and Germany) presented a paper entitled “Public Activism and the Politicization of Bavaria during the Montez Affair.”
In addition, Conger chaired a panel on February 23rd entitled “Producing and Defining Identities on the North American Frontier.”
