To the Ithaca College Student Body:
As you may have noticed, Ithaca is not quite ready to transition to spring from winter yet. In anticipation of the current winter storm warning in effect from the National Weather Service, the Campus Affairs Committee would like to relay some information from a recent meeting with the Office of Facilities.
When it is snowing, the Office of Facilities has staff working from before dawn until midnight to make sure roads, sidewalks, stairs, and entrances are clear of snow and ice. Staff have different parts of campus that they cover and will clear that area throughout the day. That being said, it is possible that some paths and areas on campus could be more slippery or accruing snow than others. When it comes to keeping our campus accessible for all, it's everyone's responsibility to say something if they see something. This goes for icy patches on campus to street lamps needing a bulb replaced.
During snowy weather or with other facilities related concerns, SGC and the Office of Facilities encourage you to call the facilities building at (607) 274-3225 weekdays from 9:00am-5:00pm. During evenings and weekends, you can call the Office of Public Safety at (607) 274-3333.
We also encourage you to watch this recent video by The Ithacan going into depth about the snow and ice removal process on our campus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8laRUcR2pY and these winter safety tips from the department of Public Health and Safety: https://www.ithaca.edu/intercom/article.php?story=20161206094233931&query=environmental%2Bhealth.
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments regarding facilities and grounds maintenance on our campus please contact Anna Gardner, VP of Campus Affairs, at sgccampusaffairs@ithaca.edu.
Stay warm and stay safe!
