News on the Passing of Ed Fuller

It is with sadness that I share the news that retired employee Edwin Fuller passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday morning, March 22nd. Ed worked in the IT department at the college for 39 years, before retiring in early 2014.

Ed started his career at IC in 1975 as a Systems Programmer, in the department of Data Processing.  He was named Director of Technical Support Operations in 1982. In September 1991 he became the head of the college’s entire IT organization, and continued to serve in that capacity until he retired on January 31, 2014.

Ed oversaw the technology department during a period of significant change and growth.  When Ed started at the college the Internet as we know it didn’t exist and the modern personal computer had not yet been invented.  Computing at that point was the large mainframe computer that was in a data center that no one ever saw and only a few people interacted with.  Today, the college has thousands of computers across the campus and a network that touches every office, classroom, and residence hall room – and much of that transformation happened under Ed’s leadership.

Ed was an avid golfer, playing on several IC and other golf leagues through the years, and was active in the Ithaca College employee chorus, IC voICes.

Ed is survived by his wife, Nancy Rogers Fuller of Red Creek; sons, Jason and Bryan Fuller both of Ithaca; a stepson, Richard (Naomi) Robinson of Red Creek and four step-grandchildren, Lilly Robinson, Brooke, Morgan and Travis Severin.

Calling hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 at Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal, NY. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 28 at the funeral home. If you are interested in attending either one and would like to connect with others who are attending to share rides, please contact Shelli Mekos, assistant to the CIO, at cio@ithaca.edu or 607-274-3098.

A graveside ceremony will be held at Hannibal Village Cemetery, Hannibal in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Ithaca College to support the Information Technology Services Department, c/o Ithaca College, 953 Danby Road, Ithaca, NY 14850 or to the Red Creek Volunteer Ambulance, 7024 Main Street, Red Creek, NY 13143.

Ed’s full obituary was published in Monday's Ithaca Journal.
