Andrew Utterson, Associate Professor of Screen Studies, presents at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies

Dr. Andrew Utterson, Associate Professor of Screen Studies in the Roy H. Park School of Communications, recently presented at the 58th annual Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) conference in Toronto, Canada.

Participating in a panel entitled ‘Drone Aesthetics, Aerial Views, and Inhuman Cameras,’ and with a paper entitled ‘Images of an “Open City”: Paris by Air in Aleksandr Sokurov’s Francofonia,’ he spoke about the military history of aerial photography and how past and present meet in revealing ways in the politics and aesthetics of contemporary cinematic drones. 

 This panel was selected by the SCMS ‘Media, Science, and Technology Studies’ Scholarly Interest Group as having particular significance to the academic study of cinema and media.
