Therapeutic Recreation Faculty, Students and Alumni Present at the New York State Therapeutic Recreation Association Annual Conference

Ithaca College Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies Therapeutic Recreation Faculty, Students and Alumni made a big splash at the NYSTRA Conference April 8-10, 2018 in Saratoga Springs, New York. Together they contributed six educational sessions and hosted an alumni reception. 

Therapeutic recreation majors co-presented four sessions as noted below: 

Sessions presented with  Dr. Elich Monroe included:  "Interprofessional Education, Collaboration and Practice: The Many Roles of Recreation Therapy - Ashley Silva and Alec Harris; "Use and Benefits of Nature as a Form of Recreation Therapy for Selected Populations" - Jenn Goldhar, Alaina Richey and Kate Newcomb; and "Nothing About Us Without Us: Inclusion in Recreation Therapy Interventions" - Laura Castelein.

Catherine Gooch, Program Manager for the Center for Life Skills co-presented with Kelsey Benedek, TR student on "Unwavering Expectations - Bright Futures for Individuals living with Williams Syndrome".

In addition,  Dr. Heyne IC Therapeutic Recreation Faculty and Lynn Anderson from SUNY Cortland presented, "Planning Alternative Tomorrows with hope (PATH): A Strengths-Based Planning Process.

Alumni Dana Moore co-presented with Maris Mostad and Karen Gaviria on the topic of "Incorporating Food with a Purpose in to Therapeutic Groups. Dana currently acts as the Director of Recreation Therapy at New York Psychiatric Institute.
