ON THE VERGE AND THE NEW VOICES LITERARY FESTIVAL PRESENT a staged reading of Sarah DeLappe’s 2016 play, The Wolves, on Friday, April 20th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Cherry Artspace, at 102 Cherry Street, Ithaca.

The Wolves focuses upon a girls’ high school soccer team. Each scene is a warm-up before a game. During those warm-ups, the girls talk about everything from genocide to tampons; meanwhile, their own complicated relationship to the group, to their families, and to a larger world with which they are just starting to grapple is subtly revealed. The Wolves is about coming of age, about the isolation and anxieties of adolescence, and about the interrelationship between our personal identities and the communities that we form to fulfill and contain them.

The playwright, Sarah DeLappe, will be in Ithaca as a participant in the New Voices Literary Festival; she will attend the staged reading and participate in a brief Q&A afterwards. The cast includes Kathleen Mulligan (faculty, Theatre), and Lucia Vecchio, Fiorella Fernandez, Erin Lockett, Avery Lynch, Lillian Herrick, Sara Gutierrez, Lucy Gladstone, Janie Schaefer and Danielle Newmark (students, Theatre). Claire Gleitman (faculty, English) is the director; Jordy Diaz (student, Theatre) is the assistant director; Isobel Duncan and Kayla Owen (students, Theatre) are the stage managers; Eliana Hood (student, Theatre/English) is the dramaturg; and Ally Christman (student, Exercise Science), Gabriella Mihale and Rachel Valentino (students, Occupational Therapy) are the soccer coaches.

The Wolves, which is free and open to the public, is the final event in the New Voices Festival lineup of readings, panels, and special performances. Limited transportation will be provided for IC students; contact Claire Gleitman for information. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should also contact Claire Gleitman, at gleitman@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3893. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
