Nancy Reynolds, Program Director for the Center for Health Promotion in the Center for Counseling, Health and Wellness, has earned the Certificate of Advanced Motivational Interviewing from the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) of Portland, ME.
Motivational interviewing (MI) is a therapeutic method that helps people resolve ambivalent feelings to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. It is a practical, empathetic, and short-term process that takes into consideration how difficult it is to make life changes. MI is the central approach used in IC BASICS and in THRIVE Wellness Coaching, two of the programs offered by the Center for Health Promotion.
HETI’s Certificate of Advanced Motivational Interviewing program is a rigorous undertaking that requires three consecutive recorded sessions that are coded at the proficiency threshold according to the Motivational Interviewing Integrity Code (MITI 4.2.1).
