Microsoft's Safe Links feature, which we've been using since December to help protect against malicious web links in phishing messages from external senders, is now available for messages from internal senders. This will be enabled on Thursday, April 19th.
Safe Links provides protection against phishing messages that contain links to malicious web sites. Links in email we receive from internal and external sources will be replaced with links to Microsoft’s safelinks.protections.outlook.com domain. When you click the link, Microsoft will check the original destination site against their database of malicious sites before redirecting you through to that original site. If Microsoft deems the site malicious (or if we’ve added it to a block-list), you’ll instead be directed to a warning page.
In some cases this may mean there's a couple minutes delay after you receive a message before you can click a link. We have seen very few issues with Safe Links so far, but if there are cases where it causes problems for legitimate messages, please reach out to the IT Service Desk so we can make appropriate exceptions.
