If you are looking for a teaching approach that results in students coming to class having completed readings and ready to engage in problem solving, critical thinking and deeper discussions while significantly reducing the amount of time you spend lecturing - Team Based Learning is for you!
A group of faculty in HSHP have been awarded an IDF grant with matching funds from the HSHP Dean's office to host this workshop with Billie Franchini, a regional expert in Team Based Learning. If you are not familiar with TBL it is an evidence based active learning pedagogy that utilizes a flipped classroom approach. More information can be found at http://www.teambasedlearning.org/ and I would encourage you to watch the video on that home page. TBL has its roots in business education and many large medical schools have moved completely to TBL as the sole pedagogy (androgogy) with some universities even building or renovated buildings to support the TBL approach.
This two day event will allow you to experience the TBL classroom and then it will equip you with the knowledge and skills to renew your course(s). The event is free and attendance is not limited but we do ask for an RSVP and a commitment to attend both sessions. We will be meeting May 10th and May 23rd from approximately 8:00 am - 4:00 pm both days. There will be a few articles to read prior to the first meeting and we hope that you will come prepared to re-invent one of your courses using TBL during these 2 days as well as the two weeks in between.
If you would like to join us for this opportunity made possible by CFE/IDF and the HSHP Deans Office - please rsvp to buck@ithaca.edu.
Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Michael Buck at buck@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-1936. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
