Chrissy Guest, Assistant Professor, Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies, keynote address, The New Frontier: Discovering Diverse Stories Untold examined the research methods employed by Guest in the making of her documentary film, Beyond Ink & Paint: The Women of Animation. Guest discussed how the under-representation of women in the animation industry is evident in the lack of scholarly research on the topic of women animators, their contribution to the art of animation and the innovations being made by women in the field of animation today. This discovery lead to her creation of a documentary film that tells the unique story of women in animation.

The New Frontier: Discovering Diverse Stories Untold opened to discussions around the idea that the current trend of inclusion in writer’s rooms for animation and television will only work to broaden the fictional story potential. Guest was the keynote speaker at Mansfield University’s From Beauty to Black Widow: Sex and Gender in Pop Culture Conference on April 21st.
