It is with fondness and heavy hearts that we share Bonita Hogben’s decision to retire from the Department of Education this July. Bonita has been a valued member of the Department since 2008, first as an administrative assistant for the department and most recently as the College’s teacher certification officer. Prior to joining the Department of Education, she was an administrative assistant in the Art Department for nearly 16 years.
Bonita’s contributions to the life of the Department and to the success of our students would be difficult to overstate. She has skillfully supported numerous teacher education graduates to navigate the teacher certification processes in New York and other states, and she has been a treasured friend, colleague, and collaborator to members of the Department. She quickly became an integral member of the ACTEC (All-College Teacher Education Committee) staff team. Over the last 10 years, she has been a volunteer for various campus events, a budget manager, a pep-talk giver, an organizer and editor of documents, and an all-around problem-solving wizard, and she’s given these efforts with genuine care and thoughtfulness for each individual she’s assisting. We cannot express how much she will be missed.
If you would like to share your congratulations and happy wishes with Bonita, you may find her in the Education Department suite, 194 Phillips Hall, anytime between now and late July.
