Community Outreach Manager

The Ithacan is looking to hire a community outreach manager. This is a paid student position.

This position, while focused on engaging all readers of The Ithacan, will specifically be working to better understand The Ithacan’s relationship with marginalized communities on campus by hosting monthly community discussions and through organizing data concerning The Ithacan’s sourcing and staffing trends. Since this is a newly created position, further development of the position’s responsibilities may take place. We’re looking for someone who is willing to bring new and inspiring ideas to The Ithacan to make it a more inclusive, welcoming space for all students.

As a community newspaper, The Ithacan needs to ensure that its coverage is representative of all, not just a few, to allow all readers to feel connected to the journalism we produce. We’re looking for a community outreach manager who is not only committed to these values, but is also able to have authentic conversations about these values, and work with The Ithacan and the Ithaca College community to ensure that they are upheld.

Job applicants are preferred to be:
– Highly organized
– Media literate
– Comfortable collecting and analyzing data
– Comfortable facilitating intergroup dialogue discussions
– Comfortable discussing topics about marginalized identities, including, but not      limited to: Race, sexuality, socioeconomic status, gender, ability, etc.
– Self motivated
– Ready to challenge institutionalized ideas
– Available to take on this position for the Fall and Spring semesters

Please send a resume and cover letter to Grace Elletson (gelletson@ithaca.edu) and Managing Editor Nicole Peter (npeter@ithaca.edu) if interested in the position. Deadline for applications is September 5.
