Walter Byongsok Chon, Assistant Professor of Dramaturgy and Theatre Studies, gives a lecture titled “Korean Theatre in the Era of the Korean Wave” as part of SUNY Oswego's IGE International Year of Korea series on October 24.

The lecture explores Korean theatre in its contemporary global context and focuses on Korean plays that reflect particularly Korean theatrical forms and sentiments; Korean musicals that joined the wave of the K-pop phenomenon; the nuances of translating texts between the Korean and English languages; and the spread of the #MeToo movement in the current Korean theatre scene.  It further examines how Korean theatre strives to appeal to a wider global demographic.

He will also be a guest artist in the class, Acting Workshop: Fundamentals of Acting.
