Beginning Spring 2019, Ithaca College will pilot a two-year partnership with Cornell’s Prison Education Program (CPEP) to offer three 100- or 200-level Ithaca College courses (spring/summer/fall) at the Elmira Correctional Facility (ECF), an adult male maximum security prison in Elmira, NY.

Ample evidence affirms that a college education reduces recidivism by more than 60%; however, neither state nor federal funds are allocated to college-level instruction in prison, making the support of private institutions like Ithaca College and Cornell University critical to addressing the problem of mass incarceration.

IC's first offering will be MGMT 11100 Introduction to Business, taught by Assistant Professor of Finance and International Business Moustafa Abu El Fadl.

The IC Prison Education Program will be coordinated by the Office of International Programs and Extended Studies.
