Simha Tamano was born in the Israeli city of Afula to Ethiopian-Jewish parents. While today the majority of Ethiopian Jews live in Israel, Ethiopia has historically been home to a significant Jewish community.
Join Hillel for a fun and insightful look into the history and unique customs of this Jewish community. Participants will also hear about how tens of thousands of Ethiopian Jews were airlifted to Israel in order to escape persecution.
Simha, who is a current staff member with Cornell Hillel, will be visiting Ithaca on Tuesday, November 27th from 6:30 to 7:30 to lead this discussion. Her talk will take place in the DeMotte Meeting Room of the Campus Center, which is near the Campus Center Dinning Hall.
Traditional Ethiopian food will also be served prior to and during the discussion.
This program is the second installment of Hillel's Global Faces of Judaism series.
