Submitted on behalf of Provost La Jerne Terry Cornish:
It is with mixed emotions that I announce to the campus community that Danette Ifert Johnson has been selected to serve as the next provost at Kalamazoo College in Michigan. Danette will remain at Ithaca College as vice provost for academic programs until the end of this academic year, starting in her new position on July 1.
Danette is an exceptional leader whose experience with faculty development, faculty governance, curriculum development, assessment, and program review makes her the ideal leader at this moment in Kalamazoo’s history. Her commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is without question, and she does not shy away from asking the hard questions.
You can read Kalamazoo’s announcement of her appointment here.
Danette joined IC in 2004 as a faculty member in the Department of Communication Studies, and in 2011 she agreed to serve in a critical administrative position as the inaugural director of the Integrative Core Curriculum.
Her role in the Office of the Provost continued to expand, and as vice provost since 2014 she has supervised the Center for Academic Advancement, Exploratory Program, Center for Faculty Excellence, Honors Program, Integrative Core Curriculum, Office of International Programs and Extended Studies, Ithaca Seminar, College Library, and Office of the Registrar and Office of State Grants. Danette also serves as institutional liaison to the New York State Department of Education and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
To say that Danette will be missed at IC is truly an understatement! She will be an outstanding provost at Kalamazoo, so please join me in congratulating Danette and in wishing her continued success beyond measure.
La Jerne Terry Cornish
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
