Photography, Writing and Contemporary Art in Italy: Photographic Currents (3 credits), with Professor Nicholas Muellner, May 29th to June 19th, 2019.
Extended application deadline: February 16th, as space allows.
This program provides students with an opportunity to continue their study of photography, creative writing and historical and contemporary art, working in the historically rich cultural setting of Rome, and at the Venice Biennale, the world's largest contemporary art event.
This course takes advantage of living in the beautiful, iconic, historically rich city of Rome to simultaneously pursue visual and written work and art historical study. In Rome, we will explore Renaissance, Baroque and Modernist visual and narrative styles, applying them both to creative experiments and to our analysis of contemporary global art in an extended trip to the Venice Biennale.
Students with background and/or interest in photography, writing, cinema, fine art and art history are encouraged to apply. This course satisfies an Art History elective requirement in the BS Still Photography and BFA in Film, Photography and Visual Art degrees.
Program cost: $4,500 (pending confirmation of rates and enrollment)
Program costs will include tuition (3 CPMA credits), studio fee and housing in Rome (Cornell facilities and apartments in the very center of the city), museum entrance fees, four-day trip to Venice and International Student ID. A competent digital still camera, laptop computer and money for meals will be required. Italian language skills are helpful but not required.
Applications are available online.
All applicants must email nmuellner@ithaca.edu with brief declaration of interest. No prerequisites, and open to all majors, with preference given to those with course experience in photography, film, visual art and art history.
Application deadline: February 16th, as space allows.
