Authentic Ethiopian food will be served on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the DeMotte Room of the Campus Center to accompany a discussion led by Simha Tamano about Ethiopian Jewry.
All are invited to attend this relaxed and insightful program which will explore the history and unique customs of Ethiopian Jews. Participants will also learn about how tens of thousands of Ethiopian Jews were airlifted to Israel in order to escape persecution.
Simha was herself born in the Israeli city of Afula to Ethiopian-Jewish parents. While today the majority of Ethiopian Jews live in Israel, Ethiopia continues to posses a small Jewish community.
Simha is visiting Ithaca from Cornell, where she is a current staff member with Cornell Hillel. She will lead a discussion here on campus from 6:30 to 7:30 which will take place in the DeMotte Meeting Room of the Campus Center near the Campus Center Dinning Hall.
Traditional Ethiopian food will also be served prior to and during the discussion.
This program is the second installment of Hillel's Global Faces of Judaism series.
