Under the direction and mentorship of Assistant Professor, Jennifer M McKeon, PhD, ATC, CSCS, graduate student Nathan Oakes, ATC won the graduate free communications competition with his critically appraised study on ulnar collateral ligament sprains and surgical vs. non-surgical treatment options. Nathan's abstract was chosen by the EATA Research Committee as the most outstanding submission amongst all the graduate submissions, and thus awarded the Free Communications award, inviting him to present his findings in oral format to all of the attendees at the conference.
Also under the direction of Dr. Jennifer McKeon, senior athletic training majors Vanessa Brown and Katie McCall were notified that their abstract, a critically appraised topic on the potential perils of sports specialization, was an undergraduate poster finalist by the EATA Research Committee. This meant that their research poster presentation was to be reviewed by members of the Research Committee amongst 2 other finalists during the conference, in order to determine one winner. Vanessa, Katie and Dr. McKeon was chosen as the most outstanding undergraduate research poster by the committee, meaning that the AT Education Program in the Department of Exercise & Sport Sciences won 2 research awards at the conference!
