On what may turn out to be the coldest day of the year, over 100 people crowded into a standing room only theater in Cinemapolis Thursday night to learn about the Impact of Trauma across the Lifespan at our film screening and moderated panel discussion.
The audience watched a one-hour documentary focused on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and ways to treat and prevent Toxic Stress. The expert panelists, pictured below with our ICGI staff, helped to link topics in the film to their applicability across the lifespan and in particular for older adults.
If you are interested in learning more about topics raised at the event, our panelists recommend reading The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk and The Deepest Well, by Dr. Nadine Burke Harris.
The Advocacy Center of Tompkins County has amazing local resources more specific to domestic violence and sexual assault and the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute is grateful for their participation in the event.
FUN FACT: Dr. Burke Harris, the pediatrician profiled in the film, was recently named Surgeon General of California.
