Dr. Scott Erickson, Professor of Marketing, and Dr. Keith Kaiser, Professor of Music Education, have been named as Charles A. Dana Professors. Established at Ithaca College in 1975, the goal of the Dana Professorship program is to develop outstanding faculty through recruitment and retention of full-time professors with a high level of teaching competencies and recognized scholarly activities.
Dr. Scott Erickson has taught in the School of Business since 1992. He has been recognized as a Fulbright Scholar and Fulbright–National Science Foundation Arctic Scholar, and was a recipient of the Ithaca College Faculty Excellence Award. He earned his Ph.D. from Lehigh University, M.I.M. from the American Graduate School of International Management, M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University and B.A. from Hartford College.
Dr. Erickson’s Dana Professorship will focus on two areas: creating an Analytics Program/Analytics Lab to develop a marketing analytics competency in a very specific area of business‐to‐business (B2B) analytics, as well as creating strong mentorship for junior faculty and younger scholars.
Dr. Kaiser has taught in the School of Music since 1998. He has received an Ithaca College Faculty Excellence Award and Student Affairs and Campus Life Faculty Appreciation Award. Dr. Kaiser was also a co-recipient of a highly selective Sounds of Learning grant to study the functions of music education in American public schools. He earned his Ph.D. from Florida State University, M.M. from the University of Redlands and B.M.E. from the University of Wyoming.
Dr. Kaiser’s Dana Professorship will focus on a variety of areas: the impact of music on healing and therapy; the function of music in living a full and meaningful life (“Music for Life”); the role that bias and discrimination plays in relation to the impact of physical appearance on perception of, and professional realization of, musicians, conductors, and music educators; the characteristics and metrics of effective music teaching and conducting; and, the continued examination of the functions of music in public schools.
Dr. Erickson and Dr. Kaiser join five previously appointed and current Charles A. Dana Professors: Dr. Michael Malpass, Department of Anthropology; Dr. Luke Keller, Department of Physics and Astronomy; Dr. Abraham Mulugetta, Department of Finance and International Business; Dr. Jean Hardwick, Professor of Biology; and, Dr. Stephen Sweet, Professor of Sociology.
