Silent film adapatation of Oscar Wilde play in which Salome seduces her uncles Herod with a dance. He, in return, promises to behead John the Baptist. The film is considered the first film directed by a lesbian in Hollywood, is purported to have a gay and lesbian cast, and brought surrealistic avant garde set design and costuming to American cinema. FLEFF will screen the newly restored 4K version of the film, which is part of the Women Pioneers Project, an effort to reclaim the lost histories of women in early cinema.

Jennifer Herzog is an actor, teacher, and producer from NYC, who hails from a family of Broadway professionals. She’s been on the faculty of the Department of Theatre Arts at Ithaca College since 2010, and helped create/build two Ithaca-area theatre companies from the ground up: Civic Ensemble and The Cherry Arts. Local credits include: What Happens Next – world premiere by Saviana Stanescu, SALT Award nomination for Best Actress (Cherry Artspace); Indecent – staged reading for Paula Vogel (Cornell); Circle Mirror Transformation by Annie Baker (Kitchen Theatre Company). NYC credits include: The Merchant Of Venice (Jessica) and The Cradle Will Rock (Sister Mister) w/ Jean Cocteau Repertory, Much Ado About Nothing (Hero) w/ Gorilla Rep, Yentl w/ National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, plus projects with LaMaMa, Expanded Arts, Jewish Rep, Prospect Theatre Company, and many others. Jennifer is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association.
Saviana Stanescu is an award-winning Romanian-born playwright and ARTivist based in New York/Ithaca. Her plays include Aliens with extraordinary skills, Ants (both published by Samuel French), Bee Trapped Inside the Window, Lenin’s Shoe, Useless, Toys, Bechnya, Hurt, Hobo-Jungle, Waxing West (2007 New York Innovative Theatre Award), What Happens Next, developed/produced in NYC and internationally at Women’s Project, La MaMa Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop, EST, HERE, New Georges, Lark, Cherry Artspace, Civic Ensemble, Teatro La Capilla, Teatrul Odeon, etc. Saviana holds an MA in Performance Studies and an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU, Tisch. She teaches Playwriting and Contemporary Theatre/Performance at Ithaca College and is the founder of Immigrant Artists and Scholars in New York. (www.saviana.com)
Lil Anne and the Hot Cayenne is one of the hottest Regional Zydeco Dance Bands in the North East. Truly regional, comprised of members from Rhode Island, Ithaca/Newark/Rochester NY. This band is on the road constantly, in demand from Maine to Washington DC. Li’l Anne’s Zydeco is infused with their own spicy blend of rock n’ roll, blues, and funk.
Ann Michel and Phil Wilde are coprincipals of Insights International, a production company specializing in scientific, environmental, and engineering film as well as theatrical projection and lighting design for silent films/live music.
