The Office of Student Engagement is looking for a faculty or staff member interested in advising a student trip to Boston from May 13 - May 18 as part of the Summer Service Trip Program.

Students on this trip will be volunteering with the Boston Living Center and The Food Project with Serve and Grow Boston. BLC focuses on health and wellness for Boston residents living with HIV/AIDS, while The Food Project seeks to improve the quality of life for residents of the Greater Boston region through smart and sustainable food growing practices.

The primary role of the adviser is to serve as a resource while on the trip. An adviser helps with driving to and from the location, manages the group’s budget, follows college and programmatic policies, and is on hand in case of an emergency. Advisers work with the student leader on their trip to assure that the experience is engaging, challenging, and rewarding for all!

While advisers do not receive compensation, they do not incur any expenses, either. In addition, non-exempt staff participating in the program do NOT use paid time away to participate. Alternative Break trip s are a great way for faculty and staff to travel and bond with students who are committed to making a difference through service. These trips cannot happen without the involvement of an adviser.

If you think you’re up to traveling and volunteering with a group of students after finals week, contact Don Austin at austin@ithaca.edu in the Office of Student Engagement to learn more about advising a trip!
