Dr. Howard K. Kalman, associate professor, Department of Strategic Communication has co-authored “Designing Effective Instruction” (8th ed.), a widely used graduate-level instructional design textbook.
The text includes an application example that is developed throughout the book using “think-aloud” commentary, which provides insight into the designer’s reasoning concerning instructional design decisions. The commentary helps novice designers avoid common errors. The text covers identifying instructional needs, writing objectives, designing instruction, evaluating program effectiveness, and managing and implementing instructional projects.
