Ithaca College will hold a shelter-in-place drill on the morning of Tuesday, June 25, in the Facilities Administration Building on Farm Pond Road. The building will be completely closed to the public from 8:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Any incoming phone calls—including service requests—during that time will be forwarded to the Office of Public Safety.
Only the Facilities Administration Building will be involved in the drill. All other nearby buildings and operations, including the warehouse, vehicle rental and service shop, and print shop, will remain open for business during that time. The rest of the campus will also be unaffected.
The Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management is working with offices across campus to develop individualized emergency response plans, and the drill will provide an opportunity for employees who work in facilities administration to practice responding to an active-shooter type situation. The drill will not include any simulated attack, but rather will commence and conclude with an announcement to employees who work in the administration building.
Signage will be placed at the building entrance in advance of and during the drill, and Public Safety will be stationed in the area. Members of the campus community not participating do not need to take any action.
If you have any questions about the drill, contact Bill Kerry, director and chief of the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management, at wkerry@ithaca.edu.
