Apple has determined that, in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk. Affected units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and product eligibility is determined by the product serial number.
Information Technology has determined that no College-owned computers are known to be affected by this problem.
If you have a personally-owned 15-inch MacBook Pro, Apple has provided a web site with instructions for checking whether your device is eligible for the recall program.
If your computer is affected, Apple advises that you stop using the device and have it serviced. Ithaca College's fixIT shop is an Apple Authorized Service Provider and can perform this service at no charge.
