My name is Morgan and I’m a Junior Writing major here at IC, and I’m a student worker for the Office of the Registrar. From one student to another, I’d like to remind you of some important dates and information you’ll need for the upcoming semester! As per our title of Registrar’s Office, one of the most vital pieces of information you’ll need to know is about, you guessed it, registration! First of all, all students have until Wednesday, September 4th to add or drop classes. So when you decide that you maybe shouldn’t have taken that class you thought would be a fun challenge, you still have time to drop it, no consequence.

If you decide you do want to stay in a class, but you’re worried about making a below average grade, you have until Wednesday, September 11th to request an S/D/F option. S/D/F functions much like making a class pass/fail. Based on your performance, you would either receive a grade of S (satisfactory), D, or F (fail).

If you want to drop a class but it’s past September 4th, you have until Friday, November 8th to withdraw from a semester course. Withdrawing from a course means that instead of receiving a grade or earned credit, your transcript will just show a “W”.

Another piece of useful information about registration is the actual registration date for Spring 2020 classes! For continuing students, Spring online registration begins Monday, November 5th. When registration approaches, you will be able to see your time ticket in Homerconnect.

Course registration has undergone some changes. Here are some things to keep in mind during the class registration period:

We no longer offer the opportunity to override a course for capacity. If a course you are wanting to take is full, you will have to join the available waitlist for that class and wait to see if a seat opens. In the event that a seat does open, you will receive an email informing you of this and then you will register as usual. If you are having trouble finding an open class that fits in your schedule, no need to worry. Your advisor can always help you find another course that will help you complete your degree, even if it is not the exact class you were hoping to register for.

If you are unsure of what classes you should be signing up for, you can always talk to your advisor or the academic advising center to help you figure out your schedule. Additionally, you may go into Homerconnect and go to DegreeWorks, which is a helpful tool for seeing what credits you have already received and which you still need.

If you’re unsure of how to register for classes through the new system on Homerconnect, our website provides helpful tutorials on how to do so. Just visit ithaca.edu/registrar and click on the tab labeled “Course Registration & Tutorials.”

The Registrar’s website is also a great general resource for student information. For example, the tab “Student Forms & Tutorials” has many helpful links to forms you may need to fill out during your time as a student here. There is also a tab for ordering transcripts (Transcripts & Diplomas) which will guide you on how to go about ordering an official transcript from the college.

Now here’s some dates you all will be looking forward to. Fall Break this semester begins Thursday, October 17th and classes resume Monday, October 21st. Thanksgiving break is from Saturday, November 23rd to Sunday, December 1st. Classes resume Monday, December 2nd. And the last day of classes for Fall 2019 is Friday, December 13th and finals begin at 7:30am on Monday, December 16th and end 10:00pm Thursday, December 19th.

Still have questions? No problem! If you have any questions or concerns about anything relating to registration, transcripts, student forms, etc, give our office a call at (607) 274-3127 or come in and talk to one of the student workers and we’ll help you as best as we can. Our office is located on the second floor of Peggy Ryan Williams, right next to Student Financial Services. We are open weekdays 8:30-4:30 but we are holding special hours this August. We will be open until 7pm on Tuesday, August 20th and Wednesday the 21st. We will also be open Sunday the 25th from noon to 5pm. We always love to meet students and help you out!
