IC Marketplace just celebrated its 4th birthday, and since its inception Ithaca College users have enjoyed an easy and efficient way to purchase goods and services for their departments.
The Marketplace is all about maximizing the college’s purchasing power by providing accurate, up-to-date spend data and incorporating savings opportunities within supplier and product categories. Combined with a user-friendly Amazon-like shopping experience, it’s easy to see how beneficial the Marketplace can be!
While the Marketplace has streamlined the College’s procurement processes, we are still seeing credit card orders placed outside of the Marketplace with Marketplace suppliers, such as Amazon, Staples, B&H and others.
Please support the College’s efforts to focus its purchasing power by utilizing all of the benefits the Marketplace has to offer. Choosing the Marketplace over Procurement Cards helps with:
Saving time. Ordering through the Marketplace removes the need to process credit card transactions in Parnassus. The work involved in reconciling a procurement card statement with a purchase log and distributing charges to the proper accounts is lengthy, and can divert personnel from more value-added work.
Improved expense tracking. Departments can track all of their Marketplace orders in one place with line item detail, making it easier to manage orders and budgets. Procurement cards don’t provide the same level of detail as the Marketplace, making it easier to over spend.
Better financial management. Consolidating College purchases through the Marketplace helps our Finance Office better understand how and where money is spent, an important step in developing stronger supplier relationships that result in increased savings for the institution over time.
Sustainability. Using IC Marketplace instead of traveling to a physical store to make a credit card purchase helps further reduce the College’s carbon footprint thanks to decreased paper use, reduced gas consumption, and less vehicle wear.
