Politics professor, Asma Barlas, was part of a cohort of alumni of the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS), University of Denver, Colorado, who were invited to team-teach an interterm course on the Impact of Race, Ethnicity and Culture on International Relations, from August 19-30. The course was offered partly in response to some alumni’s interest in diversifying the curriculum of GSIS, now the Josef Korbel School of International Studies. The other alumni were Dr. Ahmed Samatar, James Wallace professor of International Studies and founding dean of Macalester’s Institute for Global Citizenship, and Dr. Cindy Courville, the first African-American ambassador of the US to the African Union. The course was organized by professor Edward Thomas Rowe, a former dean of GSIS.
