Ithaca College Environmental Health and Safety personnel will be conducting fire evacuation drills for all campus owned and occupied buildings during the next few weeks.
As required by the New York State Fire Code, Ithaca College Environmental Health and Safety personnel will be conducting fire evacuation drills for all campus owned and occupied buildings during the next few weeks. The fire code is very specific as to when drills are held, and how many drills are required each year. A simple explanation of the code requirement is that all residential life buildings must have four drills per year while all academic or business occupancies must have three.
ALL OCCUPANTS are required to exit a building in a safe and expedited manner any time the fire alarm system is activated, and gather at your building’s established meeting spot. EH&S will attempt to avoid conducting drills during study weeks, exam weeks etc., and every effort will be made to conduct the drills during reasonable weather.
If you have any questions the day of the drill do not hesitate to ask the EH&S staff conducting the drill. Your assistance in the drill is needed, so that by working together we can maintain fire code compliance and help promote a safe environment for our staff, faculty and students.
