IC faculty member Jennifer Spitzer will offer an introduction to Morrison's works, followed by a readings by fellow IC faculty members Cynthia Henderson and Lenora Warren.
We invite attendees to read aloud from their favorite banned book. Readings should be approximately 3 minutes in length. There will be a sign up sheet to read as you enter the Gallery, or email cmichael@ithaca.edu to be added to the list. You can bring your own book or check one out from the library.
Local and campus chapters of Amnesty International will organize the signing of petitions to defend banned and censored authors.
Banned Books Week is an annual national event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Books are most frequently banned or challenged if an institution or individual deems their content to be offensive.
