Is there a book that changed your life, or represented YOUR experience, or meant a lot to you? Odds are, it's probably been banned or challenged. From 9 am - 1 pm on Thursday September 26, we're providing postcards, computers, and addresses for authors whose work has frequently been banned, such as:
George by Alex Gino
I am Jazz by Jessica Herthel and Jazz Jennings
Fun Home by Alison Bechdel
This One Summer written by Mariko Tamaki
And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
Captain Underpants (series) by Dav Pilkey
and countless others.
If you'd like, you can write a personalized postcard or email to the author to thank them for the role their work has had in your life. We'll even provide the postage.
Speaking out for banned and challenged books is vital in the fight against censorship. So come on down to the Resource Room, grab a snack, writing utensil, and/or keyboard, and thank your favorite author!
Sponsored by the LGBT Center and the IC Library.
Dear Banned Author is a letter-writing campaign hosted by the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom.
