It is with great appreciation, respect and sadness that I share the news of the passing of Doris Kostrinsky, Hall of Fame coach and faculty member at Ithaca College from 1969-1996.
She passed away peacefully on October 4th in Venice, Florida where she resided since her retirement from Ithaca College in 1996. Doris shared her home in Venice with Deb Carbone, who was her long time friend, golfing buddy and care giver. If you would like to share a message with Deb, her email address is flog332@gmail.com.
Doris Kostrinsky was affectionately known to her students as “Coachie.” She coached field hockey, basketball, softball and men’s golf during her 27 years at Ithaca College. She mentored numerous graduate assistant coaches and student-athletes. Her many successes include leading the field hockey team to the 1982 national championship, along with multiple NCAA appearances in both softball and field hockey. The softball field is named in her honor in recognition of her distinguished service to Ithaca College. Doris Kostrinsky made an indelible mark on IC during the implementation of Title IX. Her impact on the coaching profession, countless alumnae and women’s sports in general is profound.
Memorial contributions can be made to Athletics at Ithaca College to an endowment previously established in her name, the Doris Kostrinsky Coaching Fund (given as award stipends to coaches of women’s sports) or to the Field Hockey or Softball programs.
