On Tuesday, October 15th Ithaca College hosted our annual Point of Dispensing (POD) for all faculty, staff, and students to receive a free flu vaccination. This year our POD staff vaccinated over 875 individuals!
The POD is an important part of the Ithaca College emergency preparedness plan, and tests our ability to deliver potentially lifesaving medication quickly and efficiently during an emergency or disaster incident that may pose a threat to public health.
Ithaca College is leading the charge in New York State with our annual POD by training students to be part of a national volunteer organization (Medical Reserve Corps) that supports public health emergencies and assigning student volunteers to leadership roles and POD worker positions.
The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) chose this “Ithaca College Public Health Initiatives” as a national Model Practice. It was also selected as one of the top 10 "best of the best" Model Practices out of over 150 submissions
Therefore, we want to thank the entire IC Community for making this such a successful event and process, allowing us to evaluate our current plan, staffing levels, enhancing the student experience, and helping us to be better prepared to respond in the event of an actual emergency, when you will need us most!
We hope you see you all again next year! Thank you again.
