It is with both excitement for the future and gratitude for the past that the offices of Student Financial Services and Facilities announce the retirements of Mary and Sam Lapp on November 8, 2019. With Mary’s almost 41 years and Sam’s 20 years, the Lapps have made a huge contribution to the campus in so many ways.
Mary began her career in the Bursar’s Office, serving in various positions for 30 years before moving with the office staff to the newly combined Office of Student Financial Services. In her current role as Collections Specialist, Mary has been involved in coordinating repayments of Perkins Loans, customer service with current families and outreach with former students. She is known for her depth of knowledge, compassion for working with families, and genuine dedication to her job and the College as a whole. She has eagerly volunteered at many opportunities offered by the College (commencement, concerts, special events, etc). Her impact on our families is evidenced in the many contacts she has received from former students who expressed gratitude for her assistance in their time of need. Mary’s creativity, sense of humor, and love of our community will be sorely missed.
Sam is a long time employee of Facilities Services, where he served as supervisor for his entire career. During his tenure, he has been the supervisor for every shift, and at one point he was responsible for the entire Academic unit. Known both for his ability to make sure our campus is beautifully maintained and his ability to easily converse with anyone on campus, Sam is a familiar face across campus. Like Mary, Sam embodies a strong work ethic and is eager to take advantage of opportunities for volunteerism whenever they arise. Those who have been at the campus for a while will also remember the many years he and his sidekick Duane Corbin served as the auctioneers for the annual Bursar’s Benefit Auction fundraisers!
We invite all who know Mary and Sam to join us for a farewell reception on Thursday, November 7th from 2 – 4 p.m. in the red carpet area of Dillingham Center (first floor). Together they have given the College over 60 years of service…now it is our turn to warmly thank them for all they have contributed.
