Ithaca College will hold a shelter-in-place drill for programs within the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance and the School of Humanities and Sciences that operate out of Smiddy Hall on the afternoon of Friday, November 15. The building will be completely closed to the public from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on that date. Any incoming phone calls to offices during that time will be forwarded to voicemail.
Only Smiddy Hall will be involved in the drill. The rest of the campus will be unaffected.
The Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management is working with offices across campus to develop individualized emergency response plans, and the drill will provide an opportunity for those who work in Smiddy Hall to practice responding to an active-shooter type situation. The drill will not include any simulated attack, but rather will commence and conclude with an announcement to employees who work in these buildings.
Signage will be placed at the entrances in advance of and during the drill, and Public Safety will be stationed in the area. Members of the campus community not participating do not need to take any action.
